Course Description

Patient-centered care of clients with mental health disorders and advanced disease processes or disorders is the focus of this course. Data collection, risk factors, expected findings, laboratory tests, diagnostic procedures, complications, medications, prevention, treatments, interprofessional care, and client education related to the advanced disease processes and mental health disorders are addressed. Concepts related to safety, evidence based practice, quality improvement, and informatics are integrated throughout the course. Students practice advanced nursing skills in a structured laboratory setting and expand clinical reasoning abilities to utilize the nursing process while caring for clients in the acute care setting.
