PN Medical Surgical Nursing I
Course Description
This course introduces fundamental disease processes and disorders, focusing on patient-centered care utilizing clinical reasoning and the nursing process. Data collection risk factors, expected findings, laboratory tests, diagnostic procedures, complications, medications, prevention, treatments, interprofessional care, and client education related to the fundamental disease processes are addressed. Concepts related to safety, evidence-based practice, quality improvement and informatics are integrated throughout the course. Students enhance psychomotor skills and clinical reasoning in the structured laboratory setting on campus and apply theoretical concepts and practiced skills in the acute care setting.
