Course Description

This course introduces students to the health care delivery system and examines foundational topics utilized in the provision of basic nursing care. Topics addressed include client needs related to safe, effective care, psychosocial integrity, and physiological integrity. Concepts addressing diversity, equity, inclusion, social determinants of health, the nursing process, and therapeutic communication techniques are introduced. Legal and ethical considerations focusing on the role of the LPN are also discussed. Students develop beginning patient care skills and apply concepts learned in theory in a structured laboratory setting on campus and a long-term care environment.
