Course Description

Students are introduced to basic design principles, theories, historical periods, disciplines, practices, and technologies. The areas of conceptual development, styles, materials, patterns, structures, and relationships in design are examined. Major disciplines and fields in design are considered, compared, and evaluated. The course focuses on how design influences architecture, industry, graphic and visual communication, digital media, print media, and culture. Students evaluate design by reading, writing, researching, speaking about, and analyzing concepts related to the discipline.
