Course Description

This course is a comprehensive examination of the U.S. Constitution and the impacts of resulting case law on public policy relative to criminal and social systems, governmental authority, and civil liberties. In this course students will research and analyze social and political policy resulting from these impacts in areas such as pornography, abortion, women's rights, voting rights, sentencing equality, immigration, terrorism, juvenile death penalty, and the Patriot Act to name a few. This is a discussion-based course requiring students to participate in in-depth peer discussions. Students are required to analyze the impacts of case law on state and local law enforcement as it pertains to a specific topic culminating in a research project.
