202.1 | To be eligible to receive the degree of Associate in Applied Science, a student shall satisfactorily complete a minimum of 60 credit hours with a cumulative index of 2.0, shall have passed COMP 1503 or received a transfer credit equivalent, and shall have an academic status of good standing. At least 20 credit hours shall be in the fields of Liberal Arts and Sciences. In addition, all students earning an AAS Degree shall achieve competency in the following two skill areas: Critical Thinking and Information Literacy. 204 | Graduation Requirements |
204.1 | A student shall satisfy the requirements for the certificate or degree effective when they were admitted to the college. Students who have been readmitted, declared a second major, or processed a program change must meet the requirements of the certificate or degree effective at that time. Upon request and approve by the department chair, a student may follow requirements of a more recent catalog term. |
204.2 | To be eligible to receive an approved certificate or degree, a student must complete and submit to the registrar a Degree Application Form by the date established by the registrar, or the student can be recommended by their academic department. |
204.3 | A degree will only be granted within a seven (7)-year period after the student has left the college. |
205 | Earning an Associate's Degree After Being Unsuccessful in a Bachelor's Degree |
205.1 | A student wishing to complete their associate's degree after earning upper level credits toward a bachelor degree may apply for graduation from the associate's degree if the academic standing in the semester they complete the course(s) for the associate's degree is good standing and the CGPA is at least 2.0 in that semester. |
205.2 | A student wishing to complete their associate's degree after earning upper level credits toward a bachelor degree and CGPA is below a 2.0 in the semester that the associate's degree is completed, an alternate process may be used. In order to use the alternate process, the student must petition the Records Office in writing to have his/her associate degree GPA calculated by hand using all lower level courses, along with any upper level required courses, in the associate's degree program requirements. Associate's degree completion will be satisfied and standing will be waived for the purpose of degree completion if the hand-calculated GPA is above 2.0. |
206 | Requirements for Earning Two Degrees |
206.1 | In order for a student to receive two associate degrees, the student must have earned a minimum of 90 credit hours at Alfred State College or transferred in 30 credit hours but earned a minimum of 60 credit hours at Alfred State College (not including challenge credit). The two associate programs must differ by a minimum of 30 credit hours. |
206.2 | In order for a student to receive two baccalaureate degrees, the student must have earned a minimum of 150 credit hours or transferred in 90 credit hours but earned a minimum of 60 upper-division credit hours (not including challenge credit). The two baccalaureate programs must differ by a minimum of 30 credit hours |
206.3 | A baccalaureate-level student may receive an associate degree in a related program or an associate-level student may receive a certificate in a related approved program, provided that the student applied for both degrees prior to the completion of the baccalaureate or associate degree respectively. |
207 | Minors |
207.1 | To be eligible to receive a baccalaureate degree with a minor, a student shall have completed the required credit hours in their major, and a student shall have completed the minimum of 15 credit hours and at least 4 courses in the minor. All courses in the minor may be used for the major. |
207.2 | To be eligible to receive a baccalaureate degree with a minor, a minimum GPA of 2.5 in all of the minor courses must be attained. |
207.3 | To be eligible to receive a baccalaureate degree with a minor, a minimum of one course (3 credit hours) must be completed at this college. |
207.4 | A student must meet the program requirements of the minor effective when the minor declaration request form is submitted. Upon request and approval by the department chair of the minor, a student may follow the requirements for a more recent term. |
207.5 | To receive two or more minors, a student shall have completed at least 12 credits for each minor that were not used in either the major or other declared minor(s). |
