Course Description

This course offers a comprehensive exploration of sectional anatomy as it relates to diagnostic medical sonography. Student develop a strong foundation in anatomical terminology, body planes, cavities, and relational anatomy related to the abdominal and pelvic cavities. The course emphasizes the anatomy, physiology, location, sonographic appearance, and typical size of key abdominal organs and vascular structures, including the liver, gallbladder, pancreas, spleen, kidneys, bladder, adrenal glands, aorta, inferior vena cava, and portal venous system, as well as the thyroid gland, scrotum, and female pelvic organs. Attention to adjacent relational anatomy is stressed. In addition, students gain insights into the normal anatomy and sonographic appearances of fetal anatomy and maternal structures throughout the first, second, and third trimesters of pregnancy. This course equips students with the foundational knowledge and skills required for successful practice in the field of sonography.
